Stateless

For over 13 years we have worked with a Cincinnati woman who has the most extraordinary story. She was born in France in 1940, to German Jewish parents. Her father was forced to work in labor camps, and her mother gave birth to her as they hid in a tiny town that protected them. Under horrendous circumstances, her mother carried her across the Pyrenees mountains into Spain and Portugal to escape to freedom. Miraculously her father escaped and met them just in time to board a ship to America - a coal barge that was never meant to hold more than a crew, but brought over 900 people across the Atlantic.

Her family managed to save a treasure trove of documents and photographs that allowed her to piece together the whole story, which she now can pass on to her grandchildren. Most of the collection is digitized, and her book is almost finished. It has been our honor to help her make that happen.
